What was the headline?

An 11-year-old has reportedly become the youngest matador to kill six young bulls in a single fight.

Yep. An 11 year old kid in Mexico killed 6 bulls for sport. Both animal protection groups and child welfare groups tried to ban the boy from being able to fight – but the boy’s father, a bull fighter himself, appealed and won.

His dad said, “I’m very proud that my son has goals, that he wants to improve. What else does a father hope for in a son?”

I’m too grossed out to even write anything about this. I’ll leave you with another fact from the article:

Michelito has been bullfighting since he was six years old. He has fought in about 100 bullfights and has never had a serious accident.

    How is it that this kind of thing still takes place ? My son is 10 – he is so different from this boy and you can bet that his goals include protecting animals. This is by far one of the worst outrages – people who participate in this can’t even pretend to need anything from it in the same way that they rationalize needing to eat meat for protein. I could scream too – if only that would help.

    i had almost the exact same reaction that you did… just overwhelmed by repulsion and a desire to write/vent/scream about it, countered by the fact that i honestly didn’t even know what the eff to say. the whole thing infuriates me.

    In what could be encouraging news, as a result of standards imposed by the European Union surrounding the treatment of animals used for meat, experimentation, and entertainment there has been increased pressure to phase out the sport of bull fighting. Spaniards I have spoken with have attested to the decrease in the numbers of bull fights and popularity of them. There is still more progress to be made, but at least the battle is being forged by a Socialist government.
