NYC Teachers, Take a P-Course in Humane Education!
As a professional humane educator, I can wholeheartedly say that humane education is vital to our children and our schools. Humane ed teaches children compassion, respect and responsibility by educating youth on issues affecting people, animals and the environment.
Happily, HEART is offering a humane education p-course this fall for K – 5 teachers in New York City. Teachers will learn to enhance student science and literacy skills using humane education themes. Topics will include human rights, animal welfare and environmental protection. This professional course will take place on six Saturdays in the Fall 2010 semester beginning Sept 25 and ending Dec 4. Registration will begin on August 3, 2010. Click here to learn more and find out where you can sign up!
If you are a New York City teacher, I urge you to sign on up. It’s going to be a great course. If you are not a teacher, but you know NYC teachers, pass the info along.
I’ve been a humane educator for four years now. I’ve taught youth about topics ranging from bullying to child labor to dog fighting to factory farming to pollution. I’ve seen children start a school recycling program where none existed before. I’ve seen them collect thousands of socks for the homeless. I’ve seen them organize a concert for victims of the earthquake in Haiti. I have seen them open their hearts and minds to people and animals all over the world. They learn about an issue and then they take action to help solve the problem. Imagine if every school had a humane education program! This year, HEART will reach over 4,000 students in NYC and Chicago. With teacher training, we can reach even more. Pass along information about the p-course and help make this a more humane world.
