My Favorite Vegan Things

Yes, the annual Veg News survey is out and people are voting. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, look around and you’ll find many many restaurants, veg companies, blogs etc. vying for your vote. (I’m not nominated but if you like me, if you really like me, you can do a write in for your favorite blog. Yes, I’m shameless.)

I thought while everyone is in a tizzy, I would take this time to write in a consolidated list my absolutely favorite vegan things. From shopping to eating to products to organizations. Read on and if you think I’m wrong or I missed something, let me know in the comments.

Favorite Vegan Store: Cow Jones Industrials
This shop has it all: vegan shoes for every occasion, timeless clothing, purses to die for and a hostess named Donna who brings her passion and love for animals to work with her every day. This boutique is located in Chatham, NY (a beautiful little town 2 hours North of Manhattan.) I’ve bought many things from Cow Jones Industrials and love every single one. From my lipstick to my eco dress and skirt to my belt. All products are vegan, fair trade and eco. And…she’s nominated for best store! She had my vote:)

Favorite Vegan Restaurant: It’s a tie! Candle 79 & Pure Food and Wine
Whenever my husband and I have an excuse to splurge (birthday or anniversary) we debate between our two favorite NYC restaurants: Candle 79 and Pure Food and Wine. Both are pricey. Both are worth every penny if you’ve got pennies to spare. If you don’t have pennies to spare, you can go to Candle Cafe for a less expensive, but still amazing meal.

Favorite Vegan Shoes: Cri de Coeur
Come fall, you’ll see pretty much one designer on my feet. Cri de Coeur. So comfortable, so stylish, so perfect for every occasion. I own two pairs of boots, and desperately want (but have stopped myself) some of their sweet heels and sandals. Cri de Coeur takes high fashion risks while always staying elegant and sexy.

Favorite Vegan Designer/Company: Vaute Couture
I’ve got the El Coat. I’ve got the tee. I’ve got the tank. My coat is sleek, warm and ethical. And Leanne Mai-li Hilgart is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. The girl knows style and she knows compassion. Two things that make her company vegan and her heart solid gold.

Favorite Cookbook: Vegan Yum Yum
I don’t know how Veg News missed it, but Lauren Ulm’s cookbook Vegan Yum Yum wasn’t nominated! It is my penultimate favorite cookbook. From the Creamy Broccoli Dal to the Sweet Chili Lime Tofu with Wok Steamed Collards and Quinoa, Vegan Yum Yum is the best cookbook I’ve tried.

Favorite Vegan Product: Daiya Cheese
Yes, Daiya is the breakout star this year. I use it on pizza, wraps and nachos. It’s always in my refrigerator and I don’t know how I ever lived without it.

Favorite Vegan Bakery: Vegan Treats
They are all the way in PA, so I’ve never been to the actual bakery, but I sure have eaten their desserts. Plenty of NYC eateries carry them and they are pure magic every time. The peanut butter bomb is one of the best things you will ever put in your mouth.

Favorite Vegan Organization: It’s a tie! HSUS and Mercy for Animals
HSUS for their far reaching work on behalf of farm animals. They have had great success the last few years in getting states to pass laws protecting farm animals from being so heavily confined. And Mercy for Animals for their insanely amazing undercover work.

Now I’ve told you mine… What are your favorite vegan things? And don’t forget to vote in the Veg News survey!

I completed the vote and found several vegan restaurants that I have been to in various cities. I'm impressed to see a local store be nominated, too (they certainly are deserving!). My favorite restaurant is Horizons in Philadelphia, but I've only been to a handful for comparison.

My favorite vegetarian who should go vegan is Lisa Simpson. Love it!

So hard to choose, especially restaurant! I chose Blossom in NYC because it was the most recent meal that blew my socks off.
Vegan Designer – Vaute Couture all the way – I have a coat and two tees!
Daiya cheese FOR SURE. Dr Cow is amazing too but Daiya is my go to everyday cheese. I made a grilled cheese w/ tomato with it the other night. WOW!
Cookbook author I had to go with Robin Robertson – her book 1000 Vegan recipes is everything you need (although of course I have piles of others. :) )
    Favorite website – Thekindlife.com – fantastic!

Most categories are just filled with choices I love and it was so hard to decide!

Sharyn – Daiya grilled cheese is also my favorite thing:) Try adding some red onion to it! WOW!

Thank you for the recommendation Ali! You know that your blog is tops on my list! I wanted to ask where you found the category Favorite Vegan Designer/Company – I have been over that survey again and again and can't find it – absolutely would have voted for Vaute Couture.

  • livinveg

Actually, I made that category up because I wanted to just say what vegan things I love. And VC is one of them! I'm afraid it's not on the survey sadly.

Thanks for the shout out to MFA Ali! It’s so hard to pick favorite vegan things… kind of like picking your favorite kid. They are all great in their own way. :)

I know what you mean! I had a really hard time with a bunch of the options in the survey. And even posting this blog, I left so many great ones out. But yes, MFA is definitely a favorite of mine:) Hands down. You guys are amazing!
